Genuine Care, D.H. |
|
I appreciate that in the local churches, there is a genuine care for one another that I have never seen. I remember one night I was down and out, pretty much exhausted, both physically and humanly. I needed some encouragement, but didn't really have the energy to ask for help. Yet just that night, in the midst of my situation, I received a phone call from an older brother from the local church, who called me just to see how I was doing. This brother was about to leave to be a speaker to give some important Christian conferences in other countries. But the night before he left, he still had the time to call me because he heard that I had been a little sick that week. We fellowshipped a little bit together, prayed a little, and then hung up. To me, this was really so touching and comforting. I realized once again that in the local churches, no one thinks he is big potato or small potato, an important person versus a not important person, etc. In my experience, time and time again, I have realized that everyone just considers each other as brothers and sisters in the Lord, and there is a sweet mutual care and concern for each other. When I touched the heart of God, I realized He is a God of love. When I touched the local church, I saw the God of love reaching me and caring for me through the other brothers and sisters. Music Made Clear In college, I took a musicology class that covered a large span of classical music. One day, we went over a piece by Snetena, called the Moldau. The Moldau, to the normal person, is just a pleasant and beautiful musical piece. But in actuality, it is the poetic musical story that depicts the Moldau river, a great river in eastern Europe, from its origin through its finish. The music depicts how the Moldau passes through a hunting ground, then a moonlight tranquil region, then some torrential rapids, and finally its passing near a massive stone edifice as it empties into the ocean. When I listened to it by myself, I never realized these things. But when my professor, who had the knowledge of the history of the piece, pointed out all the details of the story and the poem, the music seemed just to be so much more real and alive, and I just appreciated it so much the more. There are many musical pieces that have a history and a story behind them, but when someone explains the story to me I appreciate the music so much more, once I understand it. To me, this is what the ministry of Witness Lee and Watchman Nee does. The Bible is a beautiful and wonderful book--it is God's Word. I love it and treasure it and love to read it over and over. Yet when I read the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, it seems that through the Spirit, the Word of God comes alive, and I appreciate and understand it so much more than I did by just reading it over and over. Through their decades of studying the Bible, studying hundreds of years of Bible students' and commentators' work, I feel they have helped me so much to appreciate and understand God's Word, in all its detail and its thoughts. After I read the ministry I just love the Lord Jesus so much more because their ministry points to and describes the vista of the unsearchable riches of Christ. I treasure God's Word very much now, and I read it with more understanding and appreciation. I would recommend the ministry of these two brothers to anyone who wants to know the deeper meaning of the Word of God, or who wants to see more and more of the wonderful Jesus Christ. You will love the Lord more and will treasure God's Word more every day. |
